The Truth About Animal Rescue

As Ayla’s Acres No-Kill Animal Rescue finishes its 11th year, I feel a greater need to share insights and information that could help us in this endeavor. Animal Rescue is both heartfelt and heart wrenching. Sadly, the latter is more the norm in our world.
Ayla’s Acres receives between 30 and 60 calls, emails, and/or text messages a day regarding the need to surrender an animal. The reasons vary; however, the most common reasons are:
  •  I had or am having a baby.
  • I’m moving and I can’t take my pet with me.
  • Someone in the house is allergic.
  • Too much work for me. I don’t have enough time.
More and more people are dumping animals - leaving the animals to fend for themselves. Dogs are found starving in the woods. Cats are found in dumpsters and in bags on the side of the road. Animals are shot but not killed. Dogs are used for bait in dog fighting rings. Kittens are fed to snakes. The horrors that rescuers encounter nearly every day are sometimes too much to bear.
Rescues have different philosophies about how to operate. At this time, Ayla’s Acres utilizes foster homes as a step between surrender and adoption. The animals in our system are good, loving animals. Their health issues have been or are being addressed. If an issue arises, we will use trainers, socializing techniques, even reiki, to help our animals integrate into furever homes.
Currently, Ayla’s Acres has six dogs in boarding due to the lack of foster homes. We choose responsible, humane boarding options. Nevertheless, this environment is not healthy for a dog long-term.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are unable to take any more surrendered dogs or cats due to the lack of fosters and the expense associated with boarding. When you foster, you save animal lives!!
Please look deep into your heart and help these dogs. They deserve a safe place to live while we search for a furever home. Please read about the following dogs below in need of foster homes.
If you can’t foster, but know someone who can, let us know. Ayla’s Acres supplies everything needed to foster a dog or cat-food, toys, vetting, etc. The love and care you give a foster animal will never be forgotten by Ayla’s Acres or the animal.
Our dog foster application can be found at the top of our aylasacres.org/adoptable-animals page Finding room in your heart and your home means the world to these animals.
Below are the six dogs currently in boarding that desperately need a caring foster home.
