Who Are We? Ayla’s Acres No-Kill Animal Rescue, Inc. is named for a gentle Great Dane who was surrendered by her family when she was 18 months old, and went to live at an animal sanctuary for the rest of her life.Ayla’s Acres plans to acquire this 45-acre sanctuary located in Greenville, FL that is managed by full-time, dedicated and experienced resident caretakers. Many of the 300 animals have come from area humane societies that had no room or the animals were unadoptable. The current organization operating the sanctuary is unable to provide ongoing support for the animals. Without Ayla’s Acres’ intervention, many of these animals would have to be euthanized. The sanctuary will continue to be a safe place for unadoptable animals to live out their lives. The Challenge – In northeast and north central Florida, more than 30,000 animals are euthanized every year. This region, like many others in our country, faces the challenging problems that result from failure to address and resolve companion animal overpopulation issues. These issues directly affect the quality of life for both animals and people in the counties we serve. As a result, thousands of animals – many unwanted or abused, end up in shelters, animal control facilities or left homeless and abandoned. This problem is overwhelming for most communities and must be addressed proactively in order to enhance the lives of the people and the animals living there. The Response - Ayla’s Acres is committed to helping north Florida be a role model for humane animal care and concern. The animal welfare community in Duval County, FL is proactively addressing the overpopulation of animals through aggressive spay and neuter, and Ayla’s Acres strives to extend this model to underserved communities and surrounding counties in northeast and north central Florida. We have established a threefold approach to address the overpopulation problem.Spay/Neuter: Ayla’s Acres plans to reach out directly to the people who most need assistance, with a mobile unit to provide no or low cost spay/neuter and pet vaccination services. This program will reach those who live in rural areas and those citizens in low-means neighborhoods who often have no transportation to utilize other area spay/neuter services. To Educate: To educate the public about the importance of spay and neuter, how to choose the right pet for the family, humane treatment of animals, and to elevate awareness about the correlation between animal and human abuse. To Care For and Adopt: To rescue abandoned and neglected animals; provide necessary medical care; find appropriate forever homes or provide sanctuary to those animals that are not adoptable. The Opportunity - You have the opportunity to help give northeast and north central Florida access to educational programs and easier access to low- or no-cost veterinary services. Gifts to Ayla’s Acres No-Kill Animal Rescue campaign will support efforts to provide a life-affirming response to what is now a serious animal control and community health issue in the south. You will help to rescue the 300+ animals at the sanctuary in Greenville and allow us to provide a model no-kill animal sanctuary as well as a family-friendly animal adoption center. As importantly, you have the ability to help change the attitudes and culture toward animal welfare in this region.Together we can transform northeast and north central Florida into a place where the lives of companion animals are respected, and end the abandonment, neglect and abuse of companion animals in this region. Together we will work towards changing the thinking of thousands of people and impact the lives of potentially hundreds of thousands of animals. In doing so, we will do our part to make north Florida a leader in providing a healthy, happy, caring region for its animals and its people. |
